Payment Options

Thailand are having very limited numbers of online payment providers compared to other countries. And the different banks haven’t yet agreed on a common setup so they all provide own interfaces meaning each single bank need to be integrated if all need to be covered. Mobile payment are fast becoming normal with a long range of different solutions available in the shops across Line pay, Rabbit pay, Apple pay as well as all the banks solutions using mobile bank apps.

We will in the following be listing the different payment gateway providers and also describe associated ways to be selling online in Thailand.

Payment providers in Thailand

The list of different Gateway providers that offer integration to major credit card interfaces as well as to the different Thai banks debit cards.

2C2P   –    OMISE   –   PAYPAL   –  BANGKOK BANK – KSHER

OMISE

Omise payment gateway in Asia have its headquarters in Thailand. It was founded in 2013 by two Jananese. Omise offers a good range of features and attributes that are worth considering. It offer PCI-DSS 3.2 compliance giving the highest possible security for the buyer’s and sellers’ sensitive information.

Their payment model is no monthly fees, no setup cost, no hidden fees, But transaction fees are relative high compared to the rest of the world – ranging from 3.65% on traditional credit cards to 1.65% on some of the City Bank – have relative few Banks connected directly. So shopping for example 1000 THB will be charged 36.50 THB + 7% VAT=39.06 THB

The gateway is very easy to use, suitable for non-tech users. Simply go to Omise’s portal and create an account, fill out basic information. Then, input the card information you want to be charged in the system. And you are all set! Once the card number is in the system, Omise will use HTTPS so that the merchants can’t access any of the card details. 

The payment gateway then encrypts cards using the highest grade encryption (AES-256) and symmetric encryption before storing them in the store’s database. Only when cards are sent to the bank for charging then it will be decrypted. 

Because of its ease of use and high security, Omise is used by companies like McDonald’s, Allianz, The Pizza Company…

KSHER

QR Code – QR Codes are typically used for offline payments in shop.

EDC – Payment machine to be used in shop for card payments.

LinkPay – Allow payments across social media like Line, Facebook..

Ksher Boss Pro – Mobile app for payment handling on apple/android.

API / SDK – Developer modules for easy IT integration.

Ksher payment solution also offered by Thai Gateway offer online processing of the normal credit cards and they also offer shops to generate a payment link to allow the customers to make money transfer. Ksher did start mainly doing Chinese credit card clearing but have slowly moved into offering clearing across most major cards and now having payment license in several Asian countries.

Ksher is tyoically a little cheaper with standard credit cards transaction charging around 2.9% – 3.2% dependant on card type.

They offer their product called Link Pay that offer payment across social media like facebook, line and similar.

We have seen many issues when processing paymenmts linked to European Visa/Master using 3D secure.

2C2P

2C2P is one of the most used clearing gateways in Thailand, across airline companies, hotels and similar -they are having a large coverage across Asian countries and are from Singapore.

2C2P cover most payment types with standard cards like American Express, Diners, Visa, Master, JCB, Discover and UnionPay.

On QR codes and digital wallets are they having LinePay, Apple Pay, Grab, Alipay, Samsung Pay, WeChatPay and many more.

Link Pay are also one of their stromg sides allowing example Hotels to generate a Link that will take the customer to a payment option.

2C2P is one of the biggest in Asia but are not listing their transaction charges – so negotiated after contact.

Also 2C2P seem to have issues when setteling payments for Visa/Master cards having 3D secure where transaction often fail after 3D Secure processing a typical sample is on ThaiAirways where many are complaining.

KSHER
